About Us

OUR VISION. OUR GOAL.

We’re a Christ community of thoughtful faith in action. Some of us are committed in the faith. Some of us are cautious, yet curious. And others of us are somewhat skeptical. Wherever you are on the journey, we hope that you feel welcomed and at home in our church.

God has given us some clues for the journey. The four things that anchor us and guide us in all we do are Gospel Centrality, Holistic Discipleship, Bearing Witness, and Embodying Peace. These four things encapsulate, albeit in an imprecise way, everything that God hopes for us and the world.

It begins with Faith (Gospel Centrality) because it all begins when we take that first step toward God, entrusting our life to him. But this is not a solo journey, which is why God calls us not only to himself, but into Community (Holistic Discipleship). Because not only is it more enjoyable with other folks on the journey, that’s the only way we can do it — we can’t do it alone. But God has not only a plan for us, but for the world as well, and so he calls us to join him in praying and working for Justice (Embodying Peace). And ultimately, to bear Witness (Bearing Witness) to all the goodness that God is and that God brings through Jesus.

ENGLISH LEADERSHIP

Pastor Jeremy Liou: The captain of Starship U.S.S. HOC6. His continuing mission: to disciple the sheep of God, to seek out new life and new communities, and to boldly go where no pastors have gone before…(written without his consent ^_^)

Youth Director Dorcas Chang: Dorcas joined HOC6 when she was in elementary school but did not really get to know the community until junior year when someone gave her a ride to youth group every Friday night. Due to the faithful action of that youth group leader, Dorcas was able to get to know people more authentically and grew in her faith. With God’s perfect timing, Dorcas knew that she waned to continue follow Christ in college. However, Dorcas did not know that God would be teaching her what serving a community looks like. Post college, Dorcas returned wanting to serve but uncertain of where she would fit in. Through the growing pains of adulthood, loss, and change, Dorcas can confidently say she has found her place in HOC6 the same way she did during her salad days: forging relationships through simple actions by God’s grace and mercy. In her free time, Dorcas likes thrifting (pre-pandemic), drinking coffee, thinking critically about Korean Dramas and day dreaming about having her own podcast. In her personal and work life, she is a housing advocate. God has truly blessed Dorcas with a wonderful community for her to serve in and serve with.

Elder Dean Chao: Dean joined HOC6 in 2011 and has been serving in the English Congregation. He’s married to his wonderful wife Emily and they have three children together. Dean’s calling is to be an encourager and a coach. He enjoys seeing people grow in Christ. He loves to come along side believers to help them maximize their spiritual gifts. He finds similar calling in the biblical character in Acts 4:36. Barnabas used his gift of encouragement to develop God’s church and Dean believes he is called to do the same. Dean likes savoring a good cup of coffee in the morning. He also enjoys motorcycle rides in the Bay Area back roads. He feels truly blessed to serve at this church and looks forward to more of God’s blessings for this place.

Daniel Chen: Daniel joined HOC6 around 2005 as an elementary student and ended up attending throughout his formative years. He first attended the Sunday School, then youth group and eventually ended up attending the English Service. After going to UC Merced for college, Daniel came back to serve at HOC6. He got married to his wife Kelsey and now have two children, Winston and Keira. Daniel serves on the worship team as well as the leadership team, helping out wherever is needed. Daniel loves good tea shops and enjoys playing video games in his spare time. He also spends time pursuing a Master’s degree and works as a developer at a biotech company. Although his kids take up a lot of his time, Daniel loves meeting up with members of the church and fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters.

Justice Yen: Justice grew up in HOC6 and has been faithfully serving in the youth ministries.
